I confess there have been moments since I was elected to serve as a Beach Wood Director in 2016 that required working hard to remain calm and not becoming frustrated following some bad luck or irritating display of human nature. But I have always enjoyed a challenge. I would miss learning new things (who knew that LED parking lot lights have a BUG rating-backlight, upplight and glare!) and working with my fellow Directors to make Beach Wood better.

My wife, Marla, and I bought mid-rise #2068 in 2005 and delight spending half our time there between November and May. We are Florida residents, no longer “snowbirds” but do escape Amelia Island’s summer heat in New York’s Adirondack Mountains.

I graduated from UMass-Amherst and Washington University School of Law and practiced law in Utica, New York, as a solo, general practitioner for over twenty-five years. That “liking a challenge” thing kicked in when I accepted a position as New York State Assistant Attorney General in Charge of the Utica Region and remained for fourteen years. I am now fully retired and when Beach Wood isn’t on my mind I enjoy being with Marla, our kids and four grandkids, playing golf and playing the piano-classical music only, please.

There is always something to deal with at Beach Wood not only within my assigned areas of mid-rise maintenance, property wide plumbing, parking lots, elevators, rodent control and others but also helping my colleagues with their issues whenever I can. Beach Wood is fortunate to have a capable and devoted CAM which makes things easier. The major physical projects I have seen to completion include the re-roofing of all mid-rise buildings and refurbishing of bulkheads campus-wide. I also arranged for the leveling of our sidewalks which eliminated some serious trip hazards. Next up – new parking lot lights hopefully by the end of November. I spear-headed the Association’s effort to take legal possession of a unit thousands of dollars in assessment arrears and supervised all aspects of its long-term rental resulting in it again becoming a profitable revenue source rather than a liability. Serving as liaison to the “anti-starter shed” committee last Spring was an interesting experience. I am still basking in our victory. I am proudest of my effort to get Board approval for our web page, www.beachwoodassociation.com. I enjoy contributing informative articles and keeping the documents, minutes and agenda sections updated and accessible.

I think Beach Wood should sponsor the first electric vehicle charging station on The Plantation and have gathered considerable information to present to the Board. It should be a spirited debate.

I would like to continue my work for Beach Wood and would appreciate your support.
